A Real Update. . .

I’m not yet caught up, will I ever be?  But I do have a pretty good excuse.  We have been hit by the plague, let me explain. . .

Over Christmas break I took Lincoln to his super awesome pediatrician and to his chiropractor to do a check on his head since I couldn’t find a decent doctor to do cranial sacral therapy here (the one I found shamed me for not nursing my kids until they were 6. . .North Austin is pretty chill, South Austin is why the most commonly sold shirt here says, “Keep Austin Weird!”).  Anyway, so the day after Christmas Jay and I take Lincoln for his check up and hear that his head is NOT progressing (mind you at his 4 month check up in Austin the doctor said he was fine and definitely not a candidate for the DOC band, aka baby helmet).  She also let us know that the helmet, which he almost certainly needs costs $4,000 but if you can jump through enough hoops insurance will pay for it.  It was December 26th and thanks to Lincoln’s birth we’d met our deductible for the next 5 days.  So, the boys and I rush through several appointments and I write letters to the insurance and get a letter from our former pediatrician and we get the helmet covered.  THANK YOU JESUS!  Huge blessing.

The only problem is that Lincoln now can’t be swaddled.  He rolls over onto his tummy and can’t turn his head and it’s poses a suffocation hazard-not something you can just “chance.”
So, long story longer he basically stops sleeping.  I think we went 14 days with him not sleeping more than 1 hour at a time.  You’ve not seen crazy until you’ve seen me after two weeks of that type of sleep deprivation.  Remember me calling our cat to jump into my lap after Bear was born. . .?  Yep, crazy town.

Finally after Lincoln and I having a super nasty cold I went to a kids birthday party and he slept for 3 straight hours. . .in his car seat.
So, ever since that day, which was 3 weeks ago, he’s slept in his car seat.  The bad news is that he has stopped napping at all during the day, the good news is he goes down around 6 and only wakes up to nurse at 12, 3 and 6 and is up for the day between 7:30-9.  Much more doable.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot that five weeks ago our big boys both came down with the flu (type B).  Fun times.  They finally get well and then two Mondays ago Jay came down with the flu (type A) and I was diagnosed that Tuesday with an “undeterminable type of flu.”  Jay and I being sick together was the WORST!  I took care of the kids for 3 days while he rested and then that weekend my super awesome dad came and got the big boys so that we could both rest and recover.  Nanny and Paw Paw and Gaga had also offered which we greatly appreciated but it worked out really well for the boys to go see Nana and Papa.
Then once we were all well for a few days Lincoln got it.  And now he’s had a double ear infection for the last 9 days.  Seriously?!?  So, basically we are waiting for the rain of frogs to start!
Ok, now I can carry on with the catching up.
