After arriving at the hospital at 6 and realizing that I was in labor things moved very quickly. . .compared to Bear’s 29 hour labor.
I was pretty exhausted for various reasons not the least of which was that I was 41 weeks pregnant and have two super active boys. When I checked in at 6 p.m. I was still only at 2 and 70% and having 1 minute contractions every 4 minutes-so it looked like we’d have a LONG night and most likely the following day as well. I was also severely dehydrated (which is crazy to me because I drink water by the gallon) so they immediately hooked me up to an iv and pumped in 3 full bags of water. I was then insanely swollen which is always fun.
So, we all figured the baby would arrive around lunch or a little after on Wednesday. By 11 p.m. I was at a 3 and having contractions that were lasting 1 minute and were every 2-3 minutes. At that point I called for my doula (Delilah) to come to the hospital.
By 1:10 I was at a 5 and 85%, by 1:20 I was a 6 and 90%. They checked me so frequently because I was really trying to wait on the epidural until I had progressed further. I had gone back and forth on whether to even get the epidural (the poor anesthesiologist came to my room 3 different times) and at 1:23 I decided natural birth was for the birds and got an epidural. BEST.DECISION.EVER! At that point (virtually pain free) I relaxed quite a bit and decided that this being my last baby I would invite my mom and sister to come for the actual delivery. Now, anyone who knows me knows that is a very weird decision for me and I never would have thought I would do that. But I did and it ended up being really cool to have them there.
At 1:48 I got the oxygen mask, for some reason I’ve been on oxygen for all 3 of my kids births. So, it’s pretty routine at this point. At 2:06 I was at 10 and 100% and just had to wait on the doctor to arrive. My awesome doctor arrived at about 2:35 walked in and said, “really? 2 a.m. is when you wanted to have this baby? Not at any normal hour?” He’s super funny, friendly and laid back and we’ve been blessed to have him now deliver 2 of my 3 babies.
After Dr. Downey arrived we all placed bets on how long I would push. I was very optimistic and said 5 minutes, Jay was not so popular as he guessed 45 minutes.
At 2:42 I started pushing and at 2:50 I heard Jay excitedly say “it’s a boy!” I was beyond excited to have a third precious and perfect little boy and so thrilled to have had such an amazing and fast (for me) labor! It was every bit as emotional and incredible as my birth with Bear and at 3:03 a.m. when I was finally able to hold Lincoln Jeffrey Adams in my arms I can’t even describe the absolute joy. What a tremendous blessing the entire situation had been! God surprised us with a third pregnancy and being able to hold him and look into his sweet little eyes was just incredible.
The nurses were all shocked at how huge my third baby was and we laughed because at 9 pounds 2 ounces and 22 inches he was the smallest of my 3 boys. He had an Apgar score of 9/9 and proceeded to be my only baby who did not go to the NICU or pediatric unit. I was in HEAVEN! Lincoln was allowed to stay with me in my room the whole time. I only let him go to the nursery one time for 3 hours when I was dying for some sleep. The whole rest of the time we were skin to skin and snuggling/napping. It was the best experience ever and I felt so very blessed and continually happy.
While we would have been happy either way we were both so excited that he was a boy. We LOVE being boy parents and I just don’t think there is anything sweeter than a little man! Having loved the name Lincoln since before even getting pregnant and then writing his name (yes, like a 6th grader) along with my other boys names one day on my church flyer I was beyond happy to finally have my Lincoln. And we were also both excited because we had planned to give him Jeffrey as a middle name to honor my incredible father.
And finally, here are the pictures (not completely in order):
Texting everyone that it was BABY TIME! Adrienne was in the UK and must not have slept at all because she was getting real time updates the entire night.
Jay added comic relief by writing all kinds of non-sense on the board.
He’s hilarious. . .and he knows it.
2:30 a.m. and ready to meet my baby! And no, I didn’t know or care how rough I looked.
Despite the hour they look pretty darn excited don’t they?!
The doctor handed him to me as soon as he was born-it was awesome! With Bear he had the collapsed lung so I didn’t get to hold him or spend any decent time with him for what seemed like an eternity. With Jackson it was a c section and I didn’t get him until he was 4 several hours old. I LOVED and was so thankful for instantly having my baby!
Jay cutting the cord.
Aunt Sissy was super excited to see her nephew be born and it was awesome to have her and Gaga with us.
I love this picture, you can see how proud Jay is of sweet Lincoln.
Yep, he’s already got the entire family wrapped around his little finger!
Gaga holding her 4th grandson.
And here’s where we get out of order with the pictures: Delilah and I waiting for Dr. Downey to arrive.
Me holding Lincoln just seconds after birth!
Ecstatic parents can’t quit smiling while they weigh Lincoln.
Lincoln’s footprints are right below Baron’s on Jay’s shirt. Unfortunately Jackson was born at a different hospital and they didn’t do the footprints on a shirt there.
I think my all time favorite moments in life are holding my three boys right after they were born. There is nothing like that feeling and its indescribable emotions and adrenaline. My wedding day is my most favorite full day ever, but these are my favorite moments.
Jay holding baby Lincoln for the first time.
Aunt Sissy holding her sweetie third Adams nephew.
She’s a natural even at 3 in the morning.
My precious man!
Lincoln’s first bath with his nurse Roxanne.
These are still from his official birthday because he was born at 2:50 a.m. but these are after a shower etc. while he was getting checked out by the pediatrician. I didn’t sleep all night because I was so excited and just wanted to hold my teeny man.
Thank you God for our sweet new man! We are so blessed to have 3 amazing little boys!
