This year the spring play fell on my birthday and it was so much fun! Jay took off the whole day and it was SO nice to have him along for all of the festivities.
Jackson and Rachel (his best girl friend from class) handed out programs before the play started. I love Jack in this suit but have no idea why his shirt won’t stay tucked in. Oh well, I just gave up on it. Regardless he was very proud and took his job very seriously.
Jackson says that Rachel “sings like an angel.”
Little Charlie coming in for the play.
Mrs. Yule (the school director) helping the Pre K class get into position.
The babies class. Bear was so happy and it made it so nice that he was able to see us and not cry or want to come climb into our laps. Jackson at this age was NOT this way.
We have been so busy lately with getting the house sold, planning for our move to Austin, etc. that sadly some things have been neglected. I knew that Bear had a line in the play but didn’t know the specific line. In the Christmas play he had a line and they said it was a surprise so I wasn’t told. The day before the play I was told that Baron knew the line perfectly but was being silly and saying, “no way jose!” when the microphone was in front of him.
Anyway, the night before the play I was going through a huge stack of presumably unimportant papers and found a letter from Bear’s teacher not only with his line for the play but asking that Jay and I practice this line with him for the FOUR WEEKS leading up to the play. Ugh, huge mommy failure. Of course the pregnant lady started bawling realizing that poor baby #3 was still in utero and I was already falling down on the job. I had been given FOUR weeks to practice with him and some how had put the paper in the “later” pile. Well, that night and the next morning we practiced like crazy. It was clear that he already knew the line perfectly.
The moment of truth came when he would either rise above his slacker mom and say the line or succumb to the lack of at home practice. Of course, he smiled at the director and whispered “no way” into the microphone and fully enjoyed the rest of his performance goofing off with his friends. And luckily, I, in a rare moment of 3rd trimester emotional clarity, realized that he was having a ball and my lack of rehearsing probably wouldn’t send him to therapy just yet. And of course as soon as he exited the stage he looked at one of the teachers and said his line, “let us lift our hands and hearts to God in Heaven.”
Having fun singing, “if you’re happy and you know it. . .”
Charlie and Kiri performing with their class.
Sweet Ellie and her class.
Jackson and Garrett were the “ears of the body of Christ.”
Jackson did an awesome job and really enjoyed the play.
For the final number all of the classes were on stage together.
Charlie’s class was way over on the other side of the stage from where, Jackson, Ellie and Bear were singing (or goofing off).
Bear and a few of his buddies were getting hysterical standing like this and then walking over and playing with one of the speakers. It was hilarious.
Happy little Bear going back to his class with his friends. I love his expression in this picture.
Not surprisingly in the lease I was emotional about this being my kids last spring play at their sweet school. We have no idea where the boys will go next year but I am confident that God will lead us to another place where they can learn and be loved on the way they were here.
