Each morning Jack crawls into bed with me at 7 a.m. for some snuggle time. About a week ago he got into bed and I was already awake. Due to my awesome pregnancy insomnia I have LOTS of time to pray from 3 a.m. to 7. Anyway, I told Jack that I had just been praying for he, Bear and baby 3. He asked what I was praying for and gave him a summary: for my kids to always be surrounded by Godly Christian friends, for my kids to be best friends, for my kids purity, for my kids to feel a calling early in life (for any type of career) that would make them happy and satisfied adults in the work arena and that they would all marry those equally yoked with them. Jack immediately wanted to know about equally yoked. I explained to him for awhile and he realized that we had already talked about it but “with different words.” Jack had mentioned earlier in the week about a girl at school (Rachel) who was “so beautiful and sang like an angel in the school play.” I had told him that her real beauty was her heart for God and that he should always look for friends who have a heart for God. Anyway, we talked for a while about why he also needed a wife that loved and prioritized God as much as he did.
Skip forward to this Tuesday when I picked him up from school. Jackson got into the car and was so excited to tell me all about his conversations with Rachel that day and that “they loved eggs the same for God.” I cracked up at his version of “equally yoked.” Often I think our conversations go over his head but I really love knowing that some of it sticks. . . at some level.
