Random Happenings

Lincoln constantly climbs on everything.  And when I ask/tell him to get down this is what he does.  He pretends to be asleep.  Seriously?!  Such a funny dude!

IMG_0079

In March I was beyond exhausted from our crazy time of concussion and illness and Lincoln still waking up to nurse 4 times a night.  I’m pretty sure that I was going insane, or already was insane, or maybe Jay just feared imminent insanity.  Either way, Jay was going to take the bigs to his parents house for the weekend.  The night before I don’t know what I said but he decided that he should take all 3 kids so that I could have a weekend to myself and so that Lincoln would have to eat. . .actual food.  I was super excited but also really nervous for all of the boys to be gone for the weekend.  Jay is an amazing dad and the Osby’s are great with the kids but I was still really anxious about them all being gone.  I’m pretty sure that I haven’t had a weekend totally alone in a very long time.
IT.WAS.AMAZING!
While I definitely missed my guys, it was so nice to actually have a few quiet moments.  I cleaned out quite a bit of junk from the house and took multiple bags to the donation station near us.
It also occurred to me as I had a really great idea that the lack of sleep combined with the absence of quiet in my life over the past year (homeschooling Jackson during nap time left zero quiet time in my day) had drained my brain.  Those who know me will adamantly agree. . .mommy brain hit hard after Lincoln and has held on with a death grip.

My man and my sweet in-laws know that I can’t survive without at least a picture of my babies so I was kept abreast of their happenings in Beach City.  They always have a ball there and loved being able to fly a kite.

And roasting hot dogs is always a huge hit.

During my child free weekend I randomly got this text from a friend at church.

IMG_0140

Two of my super sweet friends had surprised me with a 90 massage.  It was SO fabulous!  And even more than the massage, as heavenly as it was, was the fact that these ladies had thought about me in such a caring way.  God has blessed us so richly with such wonderful friends in Austin and I’m so very grateful for that.  Being such a people person and investing my time so heavily in my family and friends I couldn’t imagine forming such great connections in such a short period of time in a new city.  Never ever would I have thought that friends of less than a year would think and care enough to send me to a massage while my guys were gone.  It was such a very kind and generous gift but the though behind it once again, showed me God’s love and provision in the area of friendships.
We had really wanted Lincoln to wean over the weekend away but I wasn’t good about sticking to my guns when he got back.  He would cry and beg and it’s just so hard when what he wants is on you at all times.  I couldn’t say no but we did go down to once or twice a day and NONE at night which was amazingly fabulous.
Lincoln definitely loves books.  He loves to sit in my lap when I read to him and he loves to look at books in his glider.  Sweet little buddy!

After his weekend away Lincoln was a very good eater.  He started eating the massive amounts that his brothers consume.  It was so very nice and I’m so thankful that Jay insisted on taking Lincoln with the bigs that weekend.  It did all of us a world of good and having Lincoln eat and sleep normally was a very good thing.

And here are the pictures that will go in the rehearsal dinner slideshow.  The bigs trying to use my breast pump on themselves.

To my future daughter-in-laws, you’re welcome for this little gem.

March in Austin was really weird.  We had more than one ice day and it was super cold.  Not normal Texas weather.

IMG_0190

Poor Jackson had such a tough time with his asthma.

Gaga sent Baron another birthday present.  During her birthday weekend Baron had seen this frog puppet at Barnes and Noble and almost cried that he had to leave “Froggy” at the store.  He has talked about Froggy multiple times and even prayed for Froggy at bedtime.  So, he was beyond thrilled that Froggy was among his birthday presents.  And, as I write this (5 months later) Froggy is still a necessity every night for Bear.  Froggy and Baron Puppy are Bear’s two lovies.

IMG_0208IMG_0209

Jackson is such a sweet big brother.  His tender heart is so evident when he’s carrying him around and taking care of him.

IMG_0212

Baron called for me one day and said, “look mom, I’m wild like Jackson!”  I’m so thankful for this goofy guy and that his “wild” isn’t nearly as death defying as Jackson’s.  I can’t only take so much. . .and this precious stunt doesn’t register in any way!

IMG_0214

More ice days.  The boys just loved playing in the cold and with the ice cycles that formed off of the swing set.

Sweet and happy smiles!

When Baron turned 4 he wanted to always pick out his own clothes by himself and he suddenly  felt very strongly about all of  his outfits.  Typically he wanted to put his overall shorts over pants.  I just went with it.  He proudly boasted to everyone he encountered that he had chosen his own clothes.  Surprisingly nobody questioned it.

IMG_0246IMG_0247IMG_0254

Ever since Pine Cove the boys have loved climbing on top of the van.  It’s pretty funny to see the sheer terror in other moms faces when my boys are up there.  You’d think it was the empire state building by the way they react.

IMG_0256IMG_0259

Lincoln’s happy place is on a swing.  He loves to swing and I have to be very strategic about getting him off of a swing or else he will scream and cry for much longer than you would expect a 1 year old to throw a fit.

And that was our March.  We thanked God the entire way through for the slow return to regularity and normalcy!

As The Youngest of 3 Boys, You Learn To Be Tough Early. . .

The kids in the neighborhood are all really sweet to Lincoln and they were having an “epic battle” and let him play along for quite a while.  Also, you might notice the two different shoes.  Lincoln is very strong willed. . .and I choose my battles.  I sure do love that crazy teeny man!

Bear’s 4th Birthday Celebration with Family

Since Bear was at the Osby’s for his birthday (although they were awesome and didn’t mention it) we told him that it was the first Saturday that he was back home.  So, we made a huge deal and had an entire day of family fun to celebrate our precious tiny Bear.

For our first stop, Bear wanted to go bowling!  It was so much fun and the bigger boys really loved it.  They did bumper bowling, Jay and I didn’t use the bumpers.

I love this little smile, seeing him enjoy his birthday so much after having missed him so very much was just so wonderful.

Jackson loves all sports and bowling was no exception.  Of course, I don’t really know if bowling counts as a sport?!?

Lincoln wasn’t having a happy day, but he hung in there anyway.  I love that sweet teeny man.

Bear finally mastered the roll. . .

And he was thrilled with the results.

Lincoln cheered up a bit when I got him some special snacks from Trader Joe’s.

No matter what Bear scored he celebrated like crazy after every turn.  I just can’t get enough of his zeal and enthusiasm for life!

After bowling, Baron wanted chicken strips from Cheddar’s.  We had an awesome lunch and he fully enjoyed himself.  At the end (despite knowing that we would be having cake later in the day) we let him have a little shot glass chocolate dessert.  He said his day just kept getting better and better!

IMG_7538

After lunch we went home and took naps and then had a healthy dinner of chicken and vegetables.  After that we went to Nothing Bundt Cakes to get Bear his very favorite cake.

These little faces just melt me.  I love these guys so much and just looking at their sweet smiles leaves me in awe.  They did their best on the cakes but thankfully we all took at least half of our cake home.  We like to stretch out the sweets!

Lincoln was very happy to join in on the celebration by having some pirate booty!

Love these sweet guys so very much and had such an amazing day being together and celebrating Bear’s 4th birthday.  We adore you Baron and can’t wait to see what God will do through you!

Bear’s 4 Year and Lincoln’s 18 Month Stats

On February 19th I took the boys to the pediatrician for the littles to have their well-checks.  At this point I had been to over 20 doctors appointments (including ped, dentist and concussion clinic), visited the ER 4 times AND spent 6 days at Dell Children’s in the last 4 weeks.  So, strolling in to see Dr. Travis was like going to a family reunion.  Both boys checked out very well.  He did mention that Lincoln had a slight speech delay but we are well aware of that.  Lincoln has been in speech therapy for 12 months.

Sweet little Lincoln was having a pretty happy day, which is always a very much appreciated thing.

IMG_7468
And now for my favorite part, the stats!

We’ll start with 18 months:

WEIGHT

Lincoln                 26 pounds                             71%

Baron                    28 pounds 8 ounces          80%

Jackson                33 pounds

HEIGHT

Lincoln                33 inches                                 61%

Baron                   35.75 inches                          99+%

Jackson              35 inches

HEAD

Lincoln                19.89 inches                          99%

Bear                       19 inches                                61%

Baron at 3 is such a delight.  He is super silly and very funny and easy going.  He’s very much loving being an older brother to Lincoln but also very loyal to his big brother.  If Jackson is in trouble, Baron will stay with him and try to negotiate with me on his behalf.  It’s not successful but I love his intense loyalty as I don’t think that’s a very common trait in any child other than a firstborn.  He loves to snuggle and cuddle and is very affectionate.  Bear has a new “best friend” every time we go anywhere and his teachers always love him.  He doesn’t get into trouble at church or school or really anywhere other than home.  He’s still a great sleeper and takes good naps.  He is still obsessed with Baron Puppy and takes him everywhere and sleeps with him.  Baron loves Jesus and really enjoys Bible stories.  He’s my precious tiny man and I couldn’t love him more.
He gets quite a bit of attention for his big blue eyes and curly hair.  People always comment on how adorable he is and he’s starting to realize the advantages of being cute.  If I’m ever upset Baron looks at me and says, “mommy, you can’t be upset, just look at my face!”
Baron is by far the easiest of the boys (at this point, I know that this could change in an instant).  He’s not strong-willed and he’s not particularly argumentative.  He's definitely fussy when he’s tired but I think that goes with being 4.  As with the other boys I’m just so thankful to be Bear’s mommy.  He brings such joy and laughter to our home and he is just an all around really cool guy.  What can I say, this kid is my heart.  I know that I say that about all 3 of my boys but it’s so true.  They are all my heart.

Lincoln at 18 months is. . .very fussy.  I love this guy with every fiber of my being but man, this is a tough stage for us.  He’s precious and loving and cuddly but if I’m not holding him (and doing exactly what he wants), he’s screaming.  He’s not a great sleeper and still gets up around 4 times a night to nurse and until he got out of the hospital he basically ate nothing at all.  After Dell Children’s he started eating better.  Lincoln is a very determined little guy.  He will work on something for a very long time and if he wants something he will not give up until he gets it. . .or he passes out.  I predict that Lincoln will be much more like Jackson than Baron.  Two strong –willed kids. . .thank God that they are so cute and affectionate because man, I’ve got my work cut out for me!
