Time for a helmet?

So, once again Jackson has injured himself. A few days ago he was running and tripped and fell nose first onto the wooden stool. So, here's his nose, poor baby. And then after that he put his tricycle on the coffee table and screamed with laughter as he rode off and crashed onto the carpet. At what point do I force my child to wear a helmet for all waking moments? I know it sounds funny but seriously. . .

Jackson's poor nose right after he fell.

Here's Jackson wearing Uncle BJ's hawaii shirt and playing with mommy's izze bottle.

The Three Amigos

When I worked at Countrywide (Full Spectrum Lending) there were 4 of us girls who got to be really good friends. We still try to get together for dinner once a month to catch up. They all came to my house last week and it was so fun b/c 3 of us now have little boys. So, here are some picture of our 3 amigos last week.

Little Myles was born May 11th and this was his first trip outside of his home. We were so excited get to cuddle with him!

The 3 boys! Notice how Jackson is about to pass out. No nap made him a zombie!

The 3 boys again. Little Ean is 9 months old and always happy.

I wonder if he gets his happy disposition from his mommy?

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to Bill and Grandmommy who have been married 60 years today! Thanks to my wonderful grandparents for being a pillar in our family and proving that with a lot of hard work a marriage can last a lifetime. I've had the tremendous blessing of living within twenty minutes of my grandparents for my entire life and they have been a huge presence in my life. Thanks guys for giving me this legacy. . .

Here are Bill and Mary Beth 60 years ago today!

And here is Bill today bringing Mary Beth a dozen roses and a card before dinner at Javiers.

The 4 of us celebrating the anniversary.

Such a sweet couple!

Javier congratulating them on the amazing accomplishment of 60 years of marriage.

They brought us a complementary after dinner drink, it was a vanilla bean liquor from Spain. We each had a sip.

Me with my incredible grandmother, thanks for always being there for all of us!

Daddy Time

Just a picture I liked from tonight:)

A Toddlers Best Friend

This week we have been keeping Freckles, Nana and Papa's dog. Freckles is an awesome dog and Jackson has become very attached very quickly. They lay together and roll around on the floor together. We went to the park each day last week and Jackson insisted on walking each time holding Freckles' leash. He would proudly walk her by each child and let them know that they could "puppy touch hands" (pet) her if they wanted. His smile was so big and he was as happy as could be watching all of the kids love on her. Today they were even cuddling in Freckles' bed (I wish I had gotten a picture!)
So, here are some pictures of Jax and his new BFF and some updates on the semi-black eye.

The bruise the next day.

Jax wanted to take Freckles down the slide. I convinced him that she and I would cheer him on from the bottom:)

I kept feeling guilty that we didn't have a dog because Jackson was so happy walking Freckles. But then watching her sniff another dogs pee and then try to lick Jackson I realized. . .nope, we're good!

Freckles was tempted by many ducks, rabbits, birds and squirrels during our walk but she was really good and only took off running after one little creature.

He kept saying "come puppy" and showing her different trees and sticks.

He was so proud to have control of the leash.

Here Jax is smiling at a little girl who had been petting Freckles.

Having fun in the bath.

Poor little guy hasn't complained any about his eye.

Last Week

Last week was a big week for Jackson. He started a two day a week (for two weeks) "summer camp" at the church where he will go to Mother's Day Out in the fall. I was super nervous about leaving him in a place he had never been and about the separation. Would he eat well without me? Would he sleep in a room with the other kids? I had a really hard time making the decision and not feeling bad about missing those hours in his day. I love being with him and seeing him discover everything but Jay and my friends convinced me he would love it and I would quickly love it as well. Well, they were right! The first day, Tuesday, Jackson was super excited about "school" because he got a backpack and a lunch kit. However, he cried when I left (there will be no mention of whether or not I cried once in the car.) When I picked him up that afternoon he had a huge smile on his face and immediately said "mo (more) school mama. Mo school peez!" He had eaten his lunch and taken a nap. He only slept for an hour and fifteen minutes but that's much better than I had expected. And by the way I cleaned almost the entire time he was gone both Tuesday and Thursday. Not exactly a glamorous break but it was really nice to get stuff done AND to know he was having a blast. So, in the end I think we are both going to LOVE mother's day out. And because I was able to get so much done the rest of the week I was able to just play with Jackson.
In addition to the fun of mother's day out this week Uncle Jeremy came over a couple of times. Jackson absolutely loves Uncle Jer and was in complete heaven just entertaining him. He was showing off more than I have ever seen him and at one point decided to jump from the hearth of the fireplace over the back of his recliner and do a front flip. The first time he made it. After I had seen the first flip I went over to stop him from doing it again. . .but it was too late. He had already jumped and hit his eye on the corner of the arm of the tiny recliner. Poor little guy has his first semi-black eye.

Jackson very excited for his first day of mother's day out and very proud of his cars lunch kit.

The reason his face looks greasy is that they play outside and I know there's no way he's going to keep a hat on so I put sun screen on his face each morning.

Uncle Jeremy holding the boo boo bunny on Jackson's hurt eye.

Jeremy convincing Jackson not to jump again. Even after being hurt he went back to try again. We did NOT let him.

Jackson sure does love "Uncle Deremy"

Jackson still doesn't realize it's a woman's hat.

Jackson was begging Jeremy to take him with him.

Imagine if you will a place which looks to be completely normal at first glance. But upon further inspection you realize some things are not as they should be. The mother is just not quite right. Things are in the wrong places and in the wrong order. Things are bizarely out of place and disassembled. Here are a few examples. . .

I walk into the kitchen looking for my keys about to run to the grocery store. Something smells strange. . .like a burning smell. I decide I should investigate. Then Jackson lets me know that he is "making" something for me. Inside the toaster (which is turned onto high by the way) I see all of my ziplock baggies (which are now burned and melded together) with the empty cardboard box behind the toaster. Lucky that I smelled and investigated and still have an in tact home.

Uh oh is heard as my angelic 21 month old son brings me this glass globe looking thing.

I then realize not only that I need a better "self cleaning" oven but also that Jack has climbed into the lower oven and removed the glass globe from around the light bulb. This is a picture of the upper oven. I still have not had a chance to fix the lower one.

Needing a few minutes to unload the dishwasher I gave Jackson the paper towel holder to play with for a moment. This is how he returned it a few minutes later.

Ahhh yes, my extra virgin olive oil. Just purchased it from Sams last week. It was full and never used and the portion that is missing Jackson poured out in the kitchen. Luckily he had been making music with pots, pans, cookie sheets and other cookware so barely any of it actually got on the floor.

If you find yourself in any of these situations you may have stumbled into. . .THE JACKSON ZONE. . .

Time with Bill

Last Tuesday Grandmommy had to have hand surgery. During her surgery Jackson and I went to hang out with Bill. Jackson loved running around in GM and Bill's big back yard and the the guys enjoying watching "The Incredibles" together. GM is doing really well and pain free and we hope to hang out at their house much more in the near future!

Watching Disney together:)

Giving Great Grandfather Bill a high five.

"Need Dat!" "Need Dat Camera NOW Mommy"

Jackson LOVES being outside!

A lion says "roar!"

Weekend

What a fun weekend we just had. Jay was home Thursday night as usual and then Friday we spent running around and being productive. Lots of errands but for some reason errands with the three of us are really fun:) Saturday we went to see cousin Ashley at work at Uncle Julio's and had a really yummy brunch. Then Saturday night we went to the "Barbecue with the Brits" at the Hirst house. Damian's family is in town from the UK and so they had a dinner to celebrate. The food was delicious (think home made tiramisu and trifle) and the company was great. It was the first time some of us that were at the wedding got to see Damian's family and we definitely enjoyed it. Adrienne even made a really yummy special chicken burger for Jax and Ellie only Jackson was on a food strike and refused to eat it. Thanks so much to Adrienne for making it though! We ended up putting Jackson down at the Hirsts so we could stay later than 6:30. We have done this plenty of times and he does really well just going back to sleep at home. Not last night. . .
We got home around 11:40 p.m. and he didn't got to sleep until almost 3, yes 3:00 a.m. He cried in his bed forever and then we moved him to our bed. It was a mess that ended with Jackson having me to sing "lullaby" to him, Lennon, Mia, Sissy and Papa. So, after the long version of the song he finally went to sleep. Jay was a super champ and got up with Jackson all 3 days this weekend. I need to think of a really good fathers day gift for him!
Then today after church (and a nap) we went to Nana and Papa's house to hang by the pool and ended up staying for dinner. It was a great day and the weekend was also really nice despite the few extra hours of "family time" Jax gave us last night:)
On another note (and mostly for my memory. . .feel free to skip this part) Jax has been using the potty on and off since he was 17 months. He had gotten to where he would only use diapers while he slept and then while the Francis family was here he barely used the potty at all. Then a few days before they left he wanted to go in the potty again. I have not encouraged this (b/c I think he's too young) but he tells us every time he has to go and so we're just seeing what happens. The great part is that we are saving lots of money on diapers because he hardly ever goes in them these days.

Adrienne being the perfect hostess, can you even tell she's pregnant?

This was the first time we had been able to see Natalie's sweet (and tiny) baby Molly.

All of the men hanging by the grill.

The lighting isn't great on this one but Jackson loves Ellie's play room.

A very excited Ellie.

Calm and Collected

I've been complaining a little lately about Jackson's new wake up time of 6:30 or 7ish. I was getting so used to 8:30 and the losing of 1-2 hours is killing me. Yes, I'm a huge baby. Anyway, he has also been extra energetic lately (and for some of you who don't think "extra" is possible with Jax, it is). But tonight after a really fun evening of playing and swimming he was the lucky recipient of 45 minutes laying in the hall bathroom with pillows all around us while the tornado sirens were going off. Typically when the sirens go off I don't freak out but tonight when Jay called and I could hear the weather man say that there was a tornado "off of 75 and parker" I decided to be safe rather than sorry. Poor little Jackson just laid there. . .under blankets with out so much as a squeak the entire time. He was holding the flashlight and looking at books and being the calmest I have ever seen him. Sadly, I think it was because he was so scared but it was amazing that he could be so great under pressure:) Finally when I was talking to Jay on the cell phone Jackson did talk to him and then put his head on my chest and say "ok mama, ok." So, while I hate that Jax had to be scared. . .or up 45 minutes past his bedtime, it was interesting to see him act in such a different manner. Also he insisted on taking all of the books we read into his crib with him this evening. Maybe he'll spend a few hours in the morning reading them:)

Some cute pictures of Jackson from tonight. . .I thought these really showed his sweet and funny personality.
